To log in into main service - gg.deals, one has to log in through Steam OpenID (or something similar, if that's not OpenID standard compliant). Then, I am asked about my username, but why is it not the same username as steam one, or at least why is it not proposed as the right one? Oh right, I know. Friendly links and this ugly (really) requirement for no whitespaces. But ok, I can live with it.
Now, let's get into merits, but start with small issue - I wonder, why my "avatar menu" tells me, that I've joined gg.deals 3 years ago? Not that I see any point in even placing that info there, but still, something seems not right, when I know, this service is much younger (and that I've signed in for the first time just recently).
Now the main issue. Community subpage, a.k.a. forum.gg.deals. Why main site and the community one use different login session? Why is that not shared? User has to login two times to the de facto same service, using exactly same method - using steam account. Hell with it. It's getting even worse. Not only session is not shared, but even account is not. You want to log in using your freshly created account from gg.deals? No can do. Should I say "that's the climate we have" (Poles would understand 🙂 )? This yet to be user is again asked for username and e-mail. I'd say, something is very not right. Not that it's such a big problem to write down those again, but ... guys, what for?
Now, why am I even writing about that? Answer is simple. By accident, I have two different nicknames on main and community page, and what's even funnier - I can't change them to be identical now.
